When you wake up in a morning and throw back the curtains and daylight is still a distant friend you wait for with anticipation, there is little more than your own vim and vigour to push you through the dark hours until daybreak. A farmer knows this all too well and when we have our animals to look after there is little choice than to get up and care for them. Ok yes granted its our livelihood and we need to do it but a bit like the rare breeds we nurture and bring on, we believe that farmers are also made of some quite special stuff too. Now before you think I’m getting maudlin I’m not, in fact its quite the opposite that I want to tell you about.

The early mornings and the late nights have become a bit easier of late as we begin to see the real progress behind some super hard work (you can give us a bit of love for that). The beginnings of the biggest Roaming Roosters development since the development of our online shopping facility is well under way, a farm shop, bistro and education centre is appearing out of the mud! The pigs want to know why there are tyre tracks where there were once trotter trails but I think even they feel the excitement. With a proper trail, picnic areas and a turkey wood the new development is going to grip the local Pendle community tightly in its warm embrace as we owe many thanks to local people who have supported us so heartily. We will try and keep you posted with many different aspects of the development but for now…. We have new entrance and upgraded services on site, walls have come down, earth has been moved and new walls are appearing!! See the plan we’ve attached and if you have any thoughts, feelings or ideas about this we would love to hear from you!!

At Christmas time, we spend so much time writing lists, especially the kids when they sit with the Argos catalogue on their lap “I want that, and that, and that…” The adults however seem to forget 1 mightily important list and then they seem to remember 2 days before Christmas.. ahh! The food shopping list! Ok yes we know that top of the list is likely to be the new flavour of Baileys and enough wine to keep you comatose til Boxing day but your Christmas dinner must include some really important meat based goodies.

So with years of practice at recommending meats for the Christmas period we have compiled a list of the must haves for your family table this Christmas:

Pigs in Blankets

Home Cured Bacon – perfect for Christmas breakfast

Farmer John’s Lamb Roll – additional meat or a boxing day treat!

Sausage Meat – make a super stuffing

Free Range Turkey – did you think I was going to forget that?

Ipad

Rolex

Bentley… oh I think these we may struggle with…

If you have a special cut that is your family christmas special or if you’re trying something avant garde this Christmas and need a little help, just give us a shout! Our butchery experience is your guidance and confidence to create the perfect Christmas. Now put your feet up, write your menu and let us do the hard work. Merry Christmas folks!
